CONCLUSION AND FINAL PRODUCT

For the first week we as an intake had our project briefing regarding the project and we formed our own group of 8 people. In that week itself we searched for any community around our own living area that needed help and based on a few we narrowed down to one community which is the Bandar Kinrara 5 residents .

We then met with Mr.Choo the head of the Bandar Kinrara 5 committee and we enquirer the current status of the community and what the community needs that would help to make the bonds of the residents grow stronger. We found out that the community have a weekly meeting and the guard house and due to insufficient space not all the committee members can participate. Therefore we came up with an idea of creating another multi functional space for the community to carry out their activities .

Another site visit was arranged to measure the site for the tarpaulin which is going to be the roof for the space as well as the columns. This thought me how to work in site without demolishing any trees instead working with the natural plan of the surrounding . All these data is then submitted for the proposal submission to our tutor.

After the proposal was approved by the tutors we started on our work. Beginning with marking and measuring the exact height for the columns to be placed in order to holdup the roof. I learned that a simple ideas has potential to flourish into bigger things that helps to promote togetherness .

This week was more into researching the type of materials to use for the roof as well as the construction details to secure it in place. We decided on using tarpaulin for the roof and metal columns in which a rope clamp is used to secure the tarpaulin in place.

The hands on work begun in this week where we as a group with some help of the residents cleaned the site. As the saying goes team work makes a dream work. In no time the site was cleaned and looked much pleasing than before.

The columns position was marked to identify the spot to dig a hole in order to secure the column footing in place with concrete.

The marked holes were dug and the columns were position followed by concrete to secure it . The footing took three days to cure before we can move on to other tasks.
After columns are dried the columns are painted with anti-rust coatings and finishes so that the columns could last long even when exposed to bad weathers.
Finally the grill mesh for the herb garden was install and the roof was secured in place with the help of all the team members. The herbs bought from the nursery was hung which consists of rosemary and mint which are natural insect repellent. The final tough was the DIY lights made from plastic bottle to light up the space.
To conclude i personally am very satisfied with the work we have done and it has finally paid off when we see the residents and the service people of Bandar Kinrara 5 using our space for many functional activities . Some of the residents commented that now more people can join the community meeting and go for their weekly 'rondaan' since there is a common space for them to gather . I learned that a space can bring so many people together and solidify the sense of togetherness amongst the community.
