PROJECT 1 : SELF-EXPRESSION THROUGH OBJECT

                      ‘REPRESENTING ME’

The purpose of the project is for students to unravel their creative side and inner self through several specific modes of communication or art form. Student as designers will generate ideas from self-identity through personal interests, preferences, attitude and personality. These ideas and qualities will later on is applied to an artwork worn on specific parts of the body, mostly parts of the body that is use for creativity and making.

This was the perfect ice breaking project for me as it's my first time dwelling into the architecture world. I will say it was difficult at the beginning but i learnt a lot through the tutorial classes and reading books. I was able to explore and generate ideas through the design processes and i learnt various method of translating ideas into a three dimensional design. Thisproject was the one of the best way of expressing myself in an art form. For this designed a mask which i named 'Detached Explorer'. As a person i always like exploring unfamiliar areas and at the same time i like being detached from the world which is a routine breaker. I like trying and doing new things everyday which is what this mask potrays me as a person.

PROJECT 2 : SELF EXPRESSION THROUGH                                                  ARCHITECTURAL SPACE 'FURNITECTURE'

Project 2 is to expand the interpretation of the self by exploring the relationships between human body and designed form. The student or students as the user or users will define the intention of the space and its form based on their personality and human body. In this project students will also be introduced to basic design principles such as rudimentary ways in which to order and organize spaces and forms. Furthermore develop an understanding of scale and proportion with relation to the human body. The 2 stages mentioned will be presented by groups in the intention to enhance the ability to articulate space and form from interpretations of the self. This development will be through a series tests and investigations involving scaled models ‘study models’. The Final Design will then be produced as a full 1:1 scaled cardboard assembly and installation.

For this project we formed a group of 6 people in which we elected our group leader to be the 'user' of the furnitecture. The term itself 'furnitecture' tells uses it a marriage of furnitecture that involves architecture elements . I have learned so much from this project as i learned about the importance of scale and proportion of the human body as well as the relationship between anthropometry and ergonomics to the shape and space of the furniture.Since the furnitecture is builded entirely of cardboard tubes i learned that the cardboard has it's own advantages and disadvantages in which it is our job to learn and understand how to make the most use of the material. To conclude this was an fun project because as a team we managed to build a full scale functional furnitecture that has space for sitting, sleeping ,climbing and exercising.

PROJECT 3:DREAMSPACE FOR THE USER  ‘SPACE FOR THE SELF’

For the final project, students are required to design a space for the self by attaching it to the walls/surfaces of an imagined ‘city’ in an empty abandoned lot in between two buildings. The space is to fit a specific use (as a dream space: for viewing, space for contemplating, space for selfexploration, space for exercising, space for dreaming, space showcasing and so to speak a dream space for the user). As the user of the space you can make your personality more interesting, an effective well thought of theme and written narrative is essential. This understanding is to be architecturally translated into a series of connected spaces (2-3 spaces) that successfully establishes the quality and articulation of the interior and of exterior design. Concept shall evidently show the experiential and spatial quality. Students are also to consider how well design conforms to both the physical and non-physical requirements of the user.

The final project for this semester may not seem tough by the title but it is quite challenging to design.I will have to say i have learnt the most out of this project, from learning to create and develop conceptual narrative to making different study models. I learnt to explore and apply basic design principles as well as understanding the dimensional requirements of the human body. My dreamspace is a place where i can look bcak and walk down the path of memories of different career choices of my life. The 3 prominent career choices i have thought of the being a doctor, an athele and a lawyer. In order to translate these careers into a design I learnt and understand the architectural elements and principles. I also learnt the process of translating my ideas into orthographic drawings and models which played a big part in communicating my design.
